An Electrifying First Year for Proton e.MAS: Flagship e.MAS 7 Becomes Malaysia’s Fastest-Selling EV, Surpassing 3,000 Units Sold

As the Proton e.MAS brand marks its first anniversary, PRO-NET proudly announced that the e.MAS 7 continues to be the No. 1 EV model in Malaysia, with 3,632 units sold as at 31 May 2025 (YTD) – comprising 3,399 units locally and 233 exported. Achieving this milestone within just five months since deliveries began in January 2025, the e.MAS 7 has come Malaysia’s fastest-selling electric vehicle.

This achievement comes just one year after the launch of the Proton e.MAS brand. Unveiled in 12 June 2024, the brand introduced its flagship model, the e.MAS 7, on 16 December 2024, which has since emerged as a frontrunner in Malaysia’s fast-evolving electric vehicle segment.

Despite pricing pressures across the EV market, the e.MAS 7 continues to perform strongly, signalling a clear reflection of the trust Malaysians place in the Proton brand and its commitment to quality.

“This strong show of support from Malaysians is incredibly encouraging. It validates our strategy, strengthens belief in the Proton e.MAS brand, and reaffirms the value of investing in homegrown innovation,” said Zhang Qiang, CEO of PRO-NET. “The e.MAS 7’s success is a strong indicator of where the market is heading and we’re proud to be leading that charge.”

Engaging the Nation from Day One
Following the successful introduction of the smart #1, PRO-NET, a subsidiary of national carmaker PROTON, was tasked with creating a fully homegrown EV brand that every Malaysian can be proud of.

The e.MAS's journey began even before the first vehicle hit the road. A nationwide naming contest drew over 25,000 entries, showcasing the public’s excitement and anticipation for a new era of electric mobility in Malaysia.

Building the EV Ecosystem for Malaysia
More than just selling cars, PRO-NET is also actively expanding the ecosystem that removes barriers to everyday EV adoption and a better ownership experience. In just one year, Proton e.MAS has included more than 2,500 public charging points (CPOs) in the Integrated Live Charging Map inside the e.MAS 7 and in the e.MAS app, offering a coverage of over 90% nationwide.

To support EV customers nationwide, 44 Proton e.MAS dealerships have been appointed, with 32 already operational. The brand has also expanded its after-sales footprint with six more 3S centres opening soon, adding to the 24 3S centres that have been servicing customers with professional satisfaction.

As demand grows, PRO-NET continues to identify new Charge Point Operator (CPO) partners while expanding its dealership and aftersales network to reach more Malaysians.

Meanwhile, construction of the dedicated Proton e.MAS production facility in Tanjung Malim is well underway. Local vendors are being identified to support component manufacturing, reinforcing Proton’s commitment to local industry development.

A Charged Future Ahead
PRO-NET remains fully committed to the National Energy Transition Roadmap to achieve net-zero emissions by 2050. Proton e.MAS is ready to spearhead this transformation, with a renewed commitment to innovation, better charging accessibility, and stronger customer support as it enters its second year.

The success of the e.MAS 7 signals a clear shift in Malaysian consumer preferences toward intelligent, connected, and sustainable mobility solutions. In addition, the upcoming Proton e.MAS 5 will reflect everything the brand has learned and will be positioned to make EV ownership even more accessible for more Malaysians.

“We are deeply grateful to all Malaysians who have supported Proton e.MAS from the very beginning,” said Mr. Zhang. “Your enthusiasm, trust, and belief in our vision have made this journey possible. As we look ahead, we remain committed to making electric mobility more accessible, more reliable, and more Malaysian than ever. The future is electric, and it’s proudly ours to build together.”
